Tributes have been paid to Steven Lee Cantor a high-profile tax attorney based in Miami and a familiar figure and friend to many readers of this news service, who died suddenly at the age of 66 last week. Funeral services were held on Sunday, October 16th, 2016. In lieu of flowers family suggests donations be made to Temple Menorah www.templemenorahmiami.org or to AIPAC, www.aipac.org
Steven was the founder, managing partner and chief executive of The Cantor Group, a law firm that focused on representing high net worth international clients and their businesses. He started his own practice in 1984, carving out a stellar reputation and making his firm one of the most significant players in its field.
He lectured and wrote extensively on international tax and estate planning as well as structuring foreign investment in US real estate. Steven was a member of various organizations, including The Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners , the Geneva Group International , the Florida, District of Columbia and New York Bars, the American Bar Association and the International Bar Association. He was also a member of TIGER 21, the premier peer-to-peer learning network for HNW investors.
“Steve was a leading international tax attorney known throughout the world for his wise advice and sophisticated planning solutions. He had an incredible spark and a great sense of humor. We are all deeply saddened by his passing and know that he will be sorely missed by his many friends and colleagues,” Kathryn von Matthiessen, partner at the firm, said.
Among his many roles was that of a judge for the Family Wealth Report Awards, and the editorial team at this publication wishes to record its own deep sadness and shock at his loss.
